Bob Glines and Coach Stepanek

Marlene Walko and Coach Stepanek

I'm really glad I went to the Sat. afternoon Empehi Tour! It was so much fun walking thru the halls and seeing the pool, gym, Principal's Office, cafeteria, etc. The Pep Rally in the Assembly Hall was great! They showed a 38 min. montage of old photos of Empehi, Beverly, and Chicago and it really brought back memories....the music soundtrack was really good too!

A highlight was when they brought up to the stage some former football members along with the current football team. They did the "Stepanek Shuffle" and shared what an inspiration Coach Stepanek has been to them. They had the current Pom Pom Squad perform and brought in the Marching Band for the finale. And of course, we sang the Emephi school song...can't believe I still remember all the words!
Anyway, it was a great afternoon! And Marie S, it was so nice seeing your brother, Pete! The only people I saw from the class of '67 was Dennis Carlson, Carol Hager, and Jan Leo. Too bad there couldn't have been more from our class...you missed a good time!

To echo Marlene Walko's comments, I was there at Morgan Park High School on Saturday afternoon and had a really nice time; I saw some old friends from earlier classes, some from my class and some from later ones, too. Had a couple of Snyder's Red Hots (which were pretty good) and a Rainbow Cone (they haven't lost any of their taste after how many years?) and enjoyed the tour of the High School, especially "The Tunnel"........ I actually thought I saw the ghost of Miss Camutz wandering around the halls looking for her Division room.

As Marlene indicated, the program that was prepared was really special and meaningful. We started the "assembly" with the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the Stars Spangled Banner. The Principal of EMPEHI addressed us and gave an idea of what Morgan Park was doing and where it was going. Two current students performed some of their original work (one was a dancer and the other sang). The section honoring Coach Stepanek was really cool and so well deserved.

The video prepared by Barry Kirk (EMPEHI Class of 1969) was a fantastic trip into that past which we called high school, it brought back so many fantastic moments and was filled with magic memories of a place that was so very, very special. The soundtrack must have had every rock & roll song from the 50's through the 70's. They also had these really cool Christmas ornaments which were green balls with the word EMPEHI painted on; they were $5.00 and the proceeds went to the school.

I also went to the Friday night event at the Beverly Art Center, as well. This was a very nice evening, too; it's just a shame more people didn't attend. It was a reception where people wandered around talking and drinking. I did have what was advertised as a "Red's Double-Double", it was a decent quarter-pounder, but, no where near what the original 'double-double' really tasted like. I had a Rainbow Cone there, too; which, was the best (gosh, I love those things!). A little later in the evening, a comic and a guitar playing singer entertained in the auditorium and both were really good; excellent, in fact. A really relaxing, entertaining evening; you missed out on a fun time.

Thanks goes out to Kristine Lang who really did a great job. It takes a lot of hard work putting together a reunion and she was working with 25 years' worth of graduates and other stuff. This is a really neat concept, which I really didn't think would fly when I first heard about it, but, it did work and I hope she isn't discouraged by the meager attendance (though, I couldn't attend Saturday night's event at The Bourbon Street venue) and I hope she will do this again in 5 years or so. It's just a shame more people didn't hear about this, because it really was a worthwhile project.
