We did this in grade school. But we would usually go out into the hall, which was further from windows, and sit down and put our heads between our legs.
Which led to the old joke:
What to do in nuclear attack?
Get down, put your head between your legs, and kiss your a... goodbye.
The guys above did not get the word.
