John J. “Jack” Simmerling, a longtime resident of Morgan Park, local business owner and renowned artist, died July 18. He was 77 years old.
Visitation will be held at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, 9300 S. Pleasant Ave., on Monday, July 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 23, at 11 a.m. Interment is private.
Simmerling is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie; his sons, John (Julie) and Carlos; his daughters, Victoria (Christopher) Sobczak, Mary (Thomas Epting), Meg (Paul) Faeh; and his grandchildren, Katherine, John Andrews, Thomas, Matthew, Cary John, Stephen, Maria, Paul, Kalven Jack, Wilson Jack, Graham and Eliza.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Elizabeth and Catherine (Kirk) Shepherd.

A kind and gentle man, as well as an excellent art teach.
