Horse Thief Hollow

A new restaurant is on the horizon for Western Avenue in Beverly.

Horse Thief Hollow will be opened by Beverly native Neil Byers and is scheduled to welcome its first customers this fall at 10426 S. Western Ave., in space currently occupied by Chatham Rug, a longtime family business.

The name of the restaurant has roots in local history. It recalls a densely wooded area of the 1850s in the vicinity of 108th Place between Longwood Drive and Hoyne Avenue. The hollow was allegedly a place where horse thieves from Missouri hung out in seclusion before selling their horses miles away in Chicago.
