Greetings,

Yesterday, I attended the funeral and luncheon services for Joyce Dobrick Bricker (EMPEHI Class of '67), along with fellow EMPEHI grads Marlene Walko, Lois Nelson Brown and Marilyn Abazoris Howell and her husband Ray and daughter Shannon. It was a wonderful service for such a beautiful person.

Joyce's minister, the Reverend Dr. David Speerbrecker officiated and the church was filled, with not only her friends and family, but with meaningful scriptures & hymns and a personal heart-felt sermon intertwined with several anecdotes about Joyce's life, family and her relationship with God; very uplifting and comforting and it was real evident that Joyce was so loved by her congregation and many friends. The church organist also performed/sang a really great solo rendition of "How Great Thou Art".

Immediately following, the church's "chef " provided an excellent buffet luncheon which had something delicious for everyone (this was not your usual church luncheon, it was more like a gourmet meal). Afterwards, the Pastor led a memorial where family and friends took to the microphone and related stories about Joyce and her husband Steve and their many travels & adventures and their relationships with God and so many others. It was both moving and very touching and I left the church feeling that I had wished I had known Joyce a lot better; what a remarkable person she was, and who was not only a wife, a mother, a teacher and a favorite aunt to so many, but also a talented artist, a counselor, a good friend and a dedicated disciple of God.

We have truly lost a fantastic person. Rest in peace, Joyce.
