Chicago Drone Video - Very Nice
New 'City in Motion' Drone Video Depicts a Dynamic Chicago
There are many moving parts to this great city
Who doesn't love a good drone video of Chicago? Over the last couple of years, filmmakers and hobbyists have delivered a number of eye-popping videos with aerial footage of our great city and the iconic buildings that make up the Chicago skyline. And just as a reminder that spring is on the way, here's a quick look at a new drone video shot during the winter. The new City in Motion film from Drone Media Chicago shows a frosty, snow-covered Chicago. The usual suspects are all featured as well: the Adler Planetarium, Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park, the 606 trail, the United Center, and of course, the Willis Tower.
As the name implies, this video focuses on how dynamic Chicago is. It's a big city with a lot of movement going on, and in the film, we get a good look at the 'L' in motion, waves from Lake Michigan crashing into the breakwall, a Metra train making its way through downtown, and vehicle traffic on our busy streets.

One Penny Pretzel Back in the Day
They used to sell these at our corner store for a penny each.
We had time to kill between our last class at MPHS and the start of basketball, baseball, or cross country practices. Growing teenage boys need their energy. A favorite snack was two chocolate milk cartons for four cents each and five rod pretzels for a penny a piece. Total cost thirteen cents.

Milk in Chicago Public Schools
I think this was the size of the milk cartons that we could purchase at Morgan Park High in the mid 60's. Two cents for white milk and four cents for chocolate. Different vendor and printing on the outside.
________
Clout-heavy family got $162 million in contracts Sun Times: The beneficiary of those extra pennies is a joint venture of former competitors that rather than continue to compete with each other banded together under the name C&M JV1 Co. C&M has held the Chicago school milk contract for nine years, delivering milk to more than 600 schools. via Beachwood Reporter.

So this must be how it came to be that we could buy milk for two cents at Morgan Park in the 60's.
Just my two cents worth.
Chocolate milk, clearly a luxury for the affluent, was four cents.

Just kidding
These are really Hare Krishna, and while I suspect they may have some mid 60 MPHS alums among them, I don't know this for sure.
++++++++++++++++
We were talking about the Hare Krishna and how they used to chanting, dancing and panhandling in airports in the 1960-70s.
_____
In the late 1970s, I was reading the "class notes" section of the UC Davis alumni magazine. You know, that section where graduates write in to brag about a promotion, an award, a marriage, or a kid? One submission was about a guy whose name I no longer remember, so I'll call him "John Doe." It basically went like this:
"John Doe, class of '73, is director of marketing and fundraising for the Hare Krishnas at the Los Angeles International Airport."
I laughed liked crazy. Always wondered if he submitted the note himself, or was being punked by a former classmate.

Hare Krishna were at every airport back in the late 60's and 70's.. They were hitting up everyone for money, especially those in uniform...

They hit me up in O'Hare when I was in uniform about 1970 or so. I gave them a couple of sentences in Russian - basically all that I remembered from my MPHS Russian class. One of them got in my face - "You will regret that when the Russians take over", something like that. Pretty funny to be lectured and hectored by a dancing chanting semi monk about the virtues of fighting Communism when that was what I was doing at the time.
